DIY Dried Orange Garland
This project is simple, smells amazing, and adds a warm, rustic vibe to your space during the holiday season. Here’s how to make it:
What You’ll Need
Oranges (4-6, depending on your desired length)
Sharp Knife – Shop a reliable chef’s knife
Twine or String – I use this Jute Twine.
Optional Decorations:
Steps to Create Your Garland
Slice the Oranges: Cut oranges into about 1/4 inch thick slices. Pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
Bake: Place the slices on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Bake at 200°F for 2-3 hours, flipping every 30 minutes until dry. They should feel firm but not crispy.
If you’re hanging the garland: Thread the twine through the orange slices using a needle. Alternate with cinnamon sticks, bay leaves, or star anise. Drape the orange garland over the pine garland.
If the garland is on a table or mantle: Just place the dried oranges and other decor directly into the pine garland for added color and texture.
Tips and Notes:
Dried oranges can last up to 1-2 years if properly prepared and stored. (The colors and scents will fade over time)
Ensure that the slices are fully dried. Any remaining moisture encourages mold growth.
Store the oranges/garlands in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. If you notice any mold or discoloration, it’s time to replace them.
