Homemade Soy Candles
Materials Needed:
Candle Wicks: I’ve used the wood and the classic wicks.
Jars or Containers: Pick up some at the local thrift store or re-use an old candle jar.
Double Boiler: To safely melt the wax.
Instructions:
Ensure the jars are clean and dry.
Secure the Wick: Use a hot glue gun to secure the wick to the center of the bottom of each jar.
Melt the Wax: Place the soy wax into the top part of your double boiler and melt it over medium heat until it reaches about 170°F.
Add Scent: Once the wax is melted, remove it from heat and stir in about 20-30 drops of your chosen essential oil for a subtle fragrance.
Pour into Jars: Carefully pour the wax into your prepared jars, leaving about half an inch of space at the top.
Let It Set: Allow the candles to cool and set for a few hours. Trim the wick to about ¼ inch.
Decorate: Add a decorative ribbon or label to give your candle a festive look.
Notes and Tips:
Use Natural Wax: Soy wax is a great choice for a clean burn and easy melting.
Choose the Right Wick Size: A wick that’s too small will not burn well, while one that’s too large can create a big flame and burn too quickly. If the container is larger, you may need to add more wicks but be sure to space them evenly in the jar.
Experiment with Scents: Don’t be afraid to mix the oils to create your own unique scent blends. A few ideas:
Cinnamon and Orange
Peppermint and Vanilla
Lemon and Lavender
