Declutter and Refresh: 5 Simple Organization Hacks to Kickstart 2025

The new year is the perfect excuse to reclaim your space and breathe some life into your home. The chaotic drawers, cluttered countertops, or that “where did I put it?” feeling is not coming with us into 2025. Check out these five affordable, and practical hacks for organizing and decluttering your space for the new year.

1. Don’t Sleep on Utensil Organizers

These are not just for your silverware drawer … Utensil organizers can be used to store and organize random items around your home. They are insanely affordable, and it’s a super quick, life-changing hack.

Ideas:

  • Storage of coffee pods, tea, and other drink mixes

  • A junk drawer will always be a junk drawer, but adding some organization can help make all those random items easier to find in a pinch. Categorize items into groups based on their function.

  • Organize small cords and other small technology accessories (phone chargers, headphones, those random cords that you have no idea what they are used for, but still keep…)

  • Store first aid or other personal care supplies.

Where to purchase:

Local Thrift Stores, The Dollar Tree, Walmart, Amazon

2. Cork Display/Message Board

Mount a cork board on a wall in your kitchen, office, or entryway and use push pins to display things like cards, invitations, business cards, and reminders.

Turn it into an information hub by hanging a calendar and/or a small dry-erase board nearby. This setup is perfect for tracking schedules, to-do lists, and reminders all in one convenient spot.

I’ve linked a few different cork board options below:

Head to the local thrifts for decorative baskets, plastic bins, and any other containers that can be used for storage or catch-alls.

4. Thrifted Jars for Storage

You can find jars in all different shapes and sizes at the local thrift stores. Turn them into practical and attractive storage solutions for small items like cotton swabs, matches, hair pins, paperclips, pens/pencils, cooking and baking ingredients, and so much more.

5. Over-the-Door Shoe Organizer Hack

Hang the organizer on the back of a pantry, closet, or bathroom door and use the pockets to store cleaning supplies, snacks, or crafting materials. Label each pocket for even easier access. This is great hack for small spaces with limited storage options.
